When you are satisfied, click on the icon on the Styles and Formatting window. Select an object and customize the area fill and border. This window can be docked to the left or right side of the main Draw window, if you wish. For more about styles, see Chapter 6 (Introduction to Styles) in the Writer Guide.Ĭlick on the icon on the Function Bar or press the F11 key to open the Styles and Formatting window. Styles allow you to define a formatting template (a style) and then to apply that style to multiple objects. This repetitive process can be greatly simplified by the use of styles. Under Type, choose Page break and under Style, select New Chapter.Suppose that you want to apply the same area fill, line thickness and border to a set of objects. Put the cursor at the end of the chapter, on a blank line (empty paragraph) of its own.Let’s suppose that you already have the page styles with the following properties:Īt some point, you will want to start a new chapter. OOo doesn’t have a predefined New Chapter style, so you must create a custom style (see Chapter 7). At the end of each (except the last) chapter, we return to the New Chapter page style for the first page of the next chapter. The following pages use the Default page style. Each chapter starts with a page style called New Chapter. This section illustrates two common scenarios where page breaks are useful.Ī possible scenario: You are writing a book that is divided into chapters. To insert a page break, choose Insert > Manual Break and choose Page break. The idea is simple: you break a sequence of page styles and start a new sequence. For example, when you apply a Left page style to a page, you can indicate in the style settings that the next page has to apply a Right page style, a First page style could be followed by either a Left page style or a Default page style, and so on.Īnother very useful mechanism to change the page style is to insert a manual page break and specify the style of the subsequent page. To change the style of only one page, you may need to insert a manual page break, as described in the next section.Īs discussed in Chapter 7 (Working with Styles), a correctly set up page style will, in most cases, contain information on what the page style of the next page should be. Changing a page style may cause the style of subsequent pages to change as well.
